"Robert
is a motivating and entertaining professional
and I highly recommend him and his work. I will
definitely use his services again, and again!"
--Greta Blackburn, Ms. Fitness Magazine
Jackie
Taylor: What is your secret? Why is it that many
people consider you the source when it comes to long-term
weight loss?
Robert Ferguson: The source! Ummm ... I like
that [laughter]. I have a passion to help people succeed
with not only releasing fat, but learning to create
health daily. I love my work and my desire to provide
the best service possible drives me emotionally. So,
if I had a secret weapon -- it would be my compassion,
passion and emotional drive to empower others to succeed!
Jackie
Taylor: What inspired you to become a coach of weight
loss?
Robert Ferguson: It is a long story; however,
my mother and her life-long battle with managing her
weight was my initial call to action. I have been an
athlete since the tender age of five and my weight was
never an issue until I turned 18. When my activity came
to a halt, the pounds came on quickly. This was a wake
up call for me as I discovered that I was not exempt
from the possibility of experiencing the hardships I
observed with my mother. I have always been intrigued
with nutrition and exercise benefits. In 1997 I decided
to make a difference through fitness and health -- specifically
weight loss and the psychology of coaching. I have been
at it ever since...hours of research, hundreds of clients
and thousands of hours invested.
Jackie
Taylor: What is meant by coaching compared to consulting
or counseling?
Robert Ferguson: There is a significant destinction
between coaching, consulting and counseling. For instance,
to consult someone would mean to assess their situation
and provide recommendations. That's it. Nothing more,
nothing less. Counseling is helping you recognize that
a problem exists, and then asking you questions until
a solution evolves. This could take weeks, even months
to take a first step. Coaching on the other hand --
now this is empowering. First of all, as a coach I don't
judge -- I evaluate. I see the value in those I work
with. I focus on teaching you how to improve your current
skills and to enhance your ability to follow through
and establish new habits of thought and action. Coaching
is an acquired skill and I take pride in my ability
to coach people to lasting success!
Jackie
Taylor: When you talk about coaching you get excited.
Is coaching a significant component to your Wellness
Weight-Loss business?
Robert Ferguson: Yes! Coaching is one of the
key essentials that separates Wellness Weight-Loss from
such popular programs like Weight Watchers and Jenny
Craig. Coaching is what makes us different from personal
trainers, nutritionists and dieticians. Our coaching
system is founded on "performance enhancement and
improved self-esteem" and as we work with you in
releasing fat, everything about you as a person improves
both mentally and physically. While most approaches
to improved fitness and health cause you to become co-dependent,
we empower you with the knowledge and tools to take
control of your life. We want you to release fat and
evolve into a lifestyle that supports the progress you
make.
Jackie
Taylor: Is there a particular coaching system you
use?
Robert Ferguson: Yes! Our coaching system is
very unique and it is tailored to the individual. You
see, we don't tell you what to do, we coach you on how
to succeed. We provide you with tools that you can use
the same day. And we back up all our suggestions with
medical and scientific data and our personal experience
of working with hundreds of clients.
Think
about it! We coach certified nutritionists and dieticians
on eating. We coach fitness trainers on exercise. We
coach trained psychologists and therapist on taking
action and self-esteem. In a sense, we are a teacher's
teacher when it comes to weight loss and lasting success!
Our coaching system is solid and we can coach anyone
into a healthier lifestyle.
Jackie
Taylor: Do you also coach athletes?
Robert Ferguson: Yes! I work with professional
and amateur athletes. It doesn't matter what the sport
-- nutrition, exercise and mental focus are essential.
Whether it is a mother of three or a professional boxer,
learning to focus and follow through are determining
factors in succeeding. I have successfully coached wrestlers,
triathletes, cyclists, fitness competitors, professional
fighters, swimmers, basketball players and the list
goes on and on to higher levels of performance. Once
I know what the objective is -- we create a plan and
I coach him or her to the outcome he or she wants.
Jackie
Taylor: Where does wellness come in to the equation?
Robert
Ferguson: Wellness describes our approach to coaching
and helping people release fat. It is the balance of
physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual health.
A state of wellness is a state where one is totally
conscious, competent and more apt to make choices in
every moment of life. Wellness summarizes your overall
well being. Those who make wellness an integral part
of their life will definitely tap into the source of
continued evolution and that means evolving with lifestyle.
Jackie
Taylor: You mention lifestyle quite often. Can you
share with us what lifestyle means to you?
Robert Ferguson: When I use the word lifestyle
I a not referring to the once popular TV show, "Lifestyles
of the Rich and Famous." By definition, lifestyle
means an individual's whole way of living. The word
individual in this definition confirms that it's personalized.
Further, when you look at the definition of whole you
quickly discover that its meaning points to words such
as entire, all and total. The reason for this is simple:
lifestyle branches out to include everything we as individuals
think, do and believe. Lifestyle encompasses everything
from our personal religion to our profession, hobbies,
eating and exercise habits, family and the people we
associate with.
Another
empowering note: the word whole is often defined as
health. Likewise, the root meaning of health gives us
the word 'wholeness.' Matter of fact, wholeness comes
from the same root that gives us the word holy. With
this said, it is apparent that you cannot talk about
lifestyle without referring to personal health. Truth
is: the essence of the word lifestyle is not how much
money you have or what type of home you reside in-it
is your health. That TV show could have easily been
titled, "Health of the Rich and Famous." Is
this making sense?
Jackie
Taylor: Yes. I am very impressed with you and your
wife [Krista]. You both have something special with
Wellness Weight-Loss.
Robert Ferguson: Thank you! Krista is an awesome
person and I have learned quite a bit from her. Between
Krista and my mother, I remain focused [laughter].
Jackie
Taylor: After speaking to one of your clients, she
shared with me that she drives two hours to sit down
and meet wit you. This says alot for your program and
coaching ability.
Robert Ferguson: Thank you. Some people are fed
up with this diet and that diet. People are spending
thousands of dollars on personal training, diets and
weight-loss programs for what? Frustration, confusion,
hear say and false promises. There are no false promises
with Wellness Weight-Loss. The results are the proof
that our approach and ability to coach people works.
Again, we have clients who are personal trainers, nutritionists,
employees of Jenny Craig and other commercial weight-loss
programs. Like I said, we empower you to evolve with
your lifestyle and that means an increase in self-esteem,
knowledge and ability to take action. So, it doesn't
surprise me when clients drive two or three hours to
meet with me. This may shock you, but I have clients
who fly in from out of state to be coached by me.
Jackie
Taylor: Wow. I know you want to keep this interview
short, but how is your book doing?
Robert Ferguson: Krista and I are very proud
of our book, "Fat That Doesn't Come Back."
Thanks to many of our clients and people around the
world not only buying the book, but sharing and introducing
it to others. We put everything into that book and in
time it will be a national best seller.
Jackie
Taylor: I watched your TV show [Robert Ferguson
Show] but it is no longer on the air. Will we see you
on TV again or in the near future?
Robert Ferguson: Yes, I'll be back! [laughter].
At the moment we are in development for two TV shows.
Later this year a men's network is launching and they
have contracted with me to host a show, and I am talking
to a major network. Many great projects are in the making.
I am excited and I look forward to popularizing our
philosophy. But in the mean time, it helps that those
who read our book and enjoy our web site, continue to
share it with others.
Jackie
Taylor: Before we let you go, tell us a little about
your new product and show, "Kitchen of the Heart".
Robert
Ferguson: For years we have wanted to develop a
home program for people interested in releasing fat
for the last time. Well, "Kitchen of the Heart"
is just that. It is a home program that includes 7 audio
CDs, a workbook like no other and a tracking journal.
It is truly the complete package. And I also perform
a one-man show titled, "Kitchen of the Heart"
where I inspire, motivate and share what the meaning
of "Kitchen of the Heart". We are negotiating
with a major infocommercial company as they believe
"Kitchen of the Heart" is unique, effective
and the missing link to why many people aren't succeeding
with weight loss.
Jackie
Taylor: Thank you Robert. To learn more about Robert,
