Enthusiasm

Congratulations for taking the time to read this week's word on ENTHUSIASM! This is the first of a series of three motivatioinal concepts I would like to share with you.

It helps to first become familiar with Webster's Dictionary and the meaning of enthusiasm. It reads: Intense or eager interest; zeal. Secondly, I would like to share with you a story of a woman who credits enthusiasm for her lasting success.

Her name is Lisa and I met her five years ago. Standing 5'5" and weighing 196 pounds, Lisa's body-fat percentage was 36 percent. Lisa was tired of going from one diet to the next. She also felt a lack of motivation in her life at the time and decided to employ a coach to kick-start her desire to GET fit. This is where I came into play. We initially discussed the meaning of motivation and then I asked her a very important question: "Do you want to GET fit or BE fit? She initially said she wanted to GET fit, but after a little more thought, Lisa realized that she wanted to BE fit.

The difference between BEING fit and GETTING fit is that you can BE fit right now. Whereas, GETTING fit is in the future. Well, once Lisa realized she wanted to BE fit, she became eager to learn and evolve as a healthy-minded person.

I did share with her that the biggest challenge would be delaying gratification. She concurred and months later she informed me that she was no longer delaying her gratification. She said, "I'm grateful right now. I may not be at my goal weight, but I am that person." After hearing those words I realized that a shift had taken place in her mind and she had come into acceptance of a lifestyle that honored healthy eating, regular exercise and the mindset of BEING healthy and no longer GETTING healthier.

This new mindset launched Lisa into instant gratification. She was successful in her mind and it was only a matter of time before her body came into alignment with her habits of thought. By upgrading her self-concept in the areas of nutrition and exercise, over a short amount of time, Lisa's daily dose of enthusiasm manifested itself into her measuring in at 19 percent body fat and weighing 128 pounds.

I encourage you to get excited about BEING healthy. Be excited about passing up GOOD for GREAT! Why? Because you deserve it! How? Make a decision today to BE fit...BE healthy...BE the person you most want to be. Yes, you can enjoy being healthy -- right now!

ACTION STEP: Treat each day as though it is your masterpiece. Live life as though it is your last day. Treat your body with respect and enjoy the feeling of being fit daily. Learn more about nutrition. Learn more about physical fitness. Learn more about YOU!
